Cosmetic surgery is a popular procedure that can bring many significant benefits to patients. But it also comes with a high risk for serious complications. Patients are often not informed about the risks, which can cause a lot of stress. Because the procedure is inherently risky, there are always inherent risks. Some of these risks are higher than others, however.
Vicarious experience
Vicarious trauma occurs when a person is exposed to traumatic events by a family member. The experience can lead to Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, and can be treated with professional help. People can share their feelings and concerns with family and friends. While it may be difficult to discuss the experience, individuals should avoid taking a loved one's reactions personally. They should keep up their daily lives and stay in contact with loved ones.
Self-rated attractiveness
A recent study looked at the relationships between self-rated psychological well-being and physical attractiveness among adolescents. Participants were asked questions about their own physical attractiveness as well as self-reported levels self-harming and suicidal ideation. The results showed that male adolescents thought they were more attractive to themselves than their female counterparts. However, the negative association between self-rated attraction and internalized distress was found in girls. These associations reached statistical significance for girls only, and were not related to suicide ideation or self-harmed behaviors.
Religiousness
A new study found that religion has a significant impact on whether people are open to cosmetic surgery. Researchers found that people who are more religious than others were less likely to undergo cosmetic surgery. But, further research is required to determine the relationship between cosmetic surgery and religiousness.
Household income
A study revealed a link between household income and the likelihood of undergoing cosmetic surgery. The findings suggest that people with higher household incomes are more likely undergo cosmetic surgery than those on lower incomes. To evaluate SES, researchers used the Dutch Central Bureau of Statistics measure of gross family income. It is widely accepted as a method to evaluate SES. This method has been shown in the past to reveal health disparities among socioeconomic groups.
Liquid silicone facial injections
While liquid silicone injections are a common cosmetic procedure, there are still risks. Some patients may experience temporary bruising and swelling. Others may develop serious complications such inflammatory reactions. The liquid silicone injections might also migrate into other areas of your body, causing permanent injury. Extreme cases of treatment can lead to heart attacks.
Infections
Patients can get infected after cosmetic surgery. Although they are uncommon, infections can still occur even if antibacterial agents have been used. Different microorganisms could cause these infections. They are most commonly caused by Staphylococci and streptococci. Non-tuberculous Mycobacteria (NTMs), however, have been reported. These infections can be difficult for standard gram staining to detect and are resistant to many antibacterial drugs.
